Back on Pins and Needles

The kids' auditions last night went perfectly--none of them missed a note or a beat! Not one was even nervous, they said. I am so thankful to God that all their preparation paid off. As a parent, all you really want is to see your child do their best: It's so much easier to let it go after that.

But today, I'm having a hard time thinking of anything else...because all three were called back for main parts! Both Bantams 8 & 11 were called back for the same little-boy role with several songs--JoJo, the son of the Mayor of Whoville. Bantam11 is also being considered as a Wickersham Brother, one of the menacing monkeys who threaten Horton the Elephant in Horton Hears a Who. Blondechick14 was called back for Gertrude McFuzz (from Yertle the Turtle & Other Stories). She is the nerdy love interest in the show; it's a great part with several tough songs.

They all did well, they think (except maybe Bantam8, being his first time!). But it's so hard to tell what the directors are thinking, and they were all up against stiff competition for these roles.

These callbacks surprised me a lot more than Blondechick's callback for the role of Cinderella, and I'm delighted at the affirmation for the kids--especially Bantam8! Even if they don't get these lead roles, they're all pretty pleased with the recognition--and at least we know that most likely, they all made it in to the show this time!

Stay tuned...the cast list will be posted at 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.

Lord have mercy.
Thee I adore.
Into Thy hands.

For all interested parties and for the family history, Blondechick14 was a precocious, petulant 4-year-old Sally Brown singing "My New Philosophy" from You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown; Bantam11 wore a top hat and a big smile for "Steppin' Out With My Baby" from Easter Parade; and Bantam8 charmed and stole hearts with "I'd Do Anything for You" from Oliver.

How exciting! I'm sure all the kids will have a lot of fun with this show. Dr. Seuss certainly wrote enough silly stuff to make it very entertaining. I'll check back tomorrow to see the final results of the auditions and call-backs. Keeping my fingers crossed. 8^)
