Thanksgiving Day

O Lord, that lends me life, lend me a heart replete with thankfulness.
~William Shakespeare, King Henry VI

God loves a cheerful giver. She gives most who gives with joy. The best way to show our gratitude to God and the people is to accept everything with joy.
~Mother Theresa, "Joy," A Gift for God

A grateful mind
By owing owes not, but still pays, at once
Indebted and discharg'd.
~John Milton, Paradise Lost

If the only prayer you say in your whole life is "thank you," that would suffice.
~Meister Eckehart (Christian mystic)

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.

For the LORD is the great God,
the great King above all gods.

~Psalm 95:1-3

Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage;

We humbly beseech Thee that we may alway prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will.

Save us from violence, discord and confusion; from pride and arrogancy and from every evil way.

Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth.

In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail.

Amen.

~Book of Common Prayer, "Prayer for Our Country"
