Update on Bantam9's School Experience

Bantam9: "Hey, Mom, today at school we read Redcoats and Petticoats."

Me: "Oh, did you mention that we had read that at home?"

Bantam9: "No--I don't want to make you look good...'cause you sent me to school."

He's still not happy to be there, but it appears that Bantam9 is having a reasonably good experience in public school, third grade. His biggest complaint about it is having to get up sooooo early for it: 8:30 a.m. The thing he was most looking forward to doing on Spring Break? --Sleeping in. And about moving? "I won't have to finish third grade!" (He thinks.)

He doesn't hate it. Some things about it, he likes just fine. But it's hard to get any really informative comments from him.

Me: "So, how was school today?"

Him: "The same as yesterday."

Me: "Tell me one thing you did in your class today."

Him: "All the things we normally do."

Okey-dokey then. All I can say is that from his report cards, it seems he's doing fine, and apparently he's well-liked by the other kids.

And I lucked out big-time, because guess what his class is drilling on now, for six weeks? Learning their multiplication facts!

I can't think of anything I'd rather have someone else teach him. Now maybe he can teach his big brother, who for years has been trying to convince me that he is mentally incapable of memorizing them. He's suddenly showing an interest in learning them...a few of them...along with his brother...if it's not too much trouble....

The whole experience will have been worth it to me if that's the main thing it accomplishes.

Amen.

Ha! Nothing like a younger sibling doing well with something to motivate an older sibling. Sorry he didn't want to make you look too good, but it's sweet of him to think of other people's parents and their feelings, lol!!

That about sums it up, doesn't it?!
