First Night of Our Camping Trip (Or, Before the Friends Arrived)

(Or, Back in the Camper Again!)

With our house on the market last summer and all the time we were spending on it, it had been nearly two years since we last used our camper. It was great to take it out again!

We have the 4-bed rear "bunkhouse" model...

...which also has beds in the main living area (which double as a couch and a dinette by day).

There's a separate bedroom for Mom and Dad in the front. Other than the cost of gas to pull it, it's perfect for our family! Of course, a night in a campground is a lot cheaper than paying for two hotel rooms, so we're eager to check out the many fine state parks and campgrounds within easy driving distance of our new hometown.

Now, can you spot the ham in the above pictures?

(Hint: He's in all but two of them, and he could use a haircut!!)

Looks like fun! We do tent camping, which in Georgia means that we can only camp about 3 months out of the year.

Heather,

That's why we bought the trailer! We tent-camped for several years and enjoyed it so much that we thought we'd go more frequently with a trailer, especially since we homeschooled and had the flexibility.

We didn't plan on the move and all, and now with two kids in public high school, it'll be even harder. But it's still so much fun.

What a lot of fun, I'm with Heather though we go tenting which with British weather can make it fun despite being wet! We don't get put off though... We've been in the tent in October... it's not the weather that can make it unbearable, it's the midges!

That looks like such fun - I love to camp but I never was able to "convert" Roger. We have an old farmhouse that was our compromise. We spent every summer up there until the kids had jobs. A lot of happy memories.

Bronwen--

I'm guessing that midges are what we call mosquitoes? They are the worst part of camping--you're right!

Kathie--

What a great compromise! This was sort of our compromise, financially, too--in between tents and a summer home.

I think if we got the chance to park it somewhere permanently, with the right hook-ups and all, we might do that--unless gas prices surprise us all with a big drop!

Oh Jeanne, that looks like so much fun! Will you post a picture of the outside? I am wondering if it is a camper you tow behind a car or if it is one that you ride in. You should rent it out to other local homeschooling families....

G--

It is the kind you pull--we pull it with our truck-engine 15 passenger van.

We initially thought, sure, we'd lend it or rent it--but it turns out to be something that I can't even drive or set up alone. Also it's complicated to troubleshoot, which we somewhat frequently have to do--and it would be so easy to break something, like the water heater, if you forget to turn things on in the right sequence. In fact, with propane tanks on board, it's just scary to think of lending it out to someone inexperienced.
