Doin' the Laptop Drop

If you ever DROP your laptop, while you're on vacation no less, so that it fails to produce even a flicker on the screen when the power button is pushed....

DON'T worry about it the whole time, berating yourself for your klutziness and wondering if such a thing is covered by your extended service plan, UNTIL you have tried this simple trick: Remove the battery. See if it boots up. If so, put the battery back in. See if it boots up.

If it works, you will have saved yourself hours of self-recrimination, and the cost in time and embarassment of having to tell the computer geek behind the desk that you don't know what really could have happened to it except maybe you kind of dropped it just a little, once.

Don't ask me how I learned all this, 'kay?

Never admit to dropping it. Lie. Lie like hell.

"It must be a manufacturing defect. It was working fine, and then it just stopped!"

Good to hear everything came out okay though!
