Election Day

"Hello, I'm [insert my name here], a volunteer for the Peter Roskam for Congress campaign, just calling to remind you that tomorrow is election day. The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. It's going to be a tight race, as you know, and Peter would appreciate your vote."

That's how I spent Monday evening, campaigning for our good friend, Peter Roskam. This Congressional race, which could determine the party that controls Congress, is "one of the most intense races in the country." It is also, "according to just about every poll, one of the closest."

I know most of my readers live outside of Illinois' 6th District, but if you can't vote for Peter, would you consider praying for the outcome of the election today?

Peter is a Christian leader of unquestioned ability and integrity who's been highly respected on both sides of the aisle in our state Senate. He has a deeply committed, vibrant faith. He's the kind of man who not only listens to the Lord but who will be able to follow Him effectively in a place like D.C. He's also warm, funny, well-liked, transparent, personal, and more than articulate.

Tammy Duckworth becomes more and more liberal as her positions emerge. Her stance on abortion is especially troubling; she's against parental notification--we're not even talking about consent. The public school can't even give my 15 year old son an aspirin without my consent, yet Tammy Duckworth says that no should even notify me if a life-threatening procedure is performed on my 13 year old daughter!

So will you pray with us for the outcome of this race?

We plan to go to the Election Night gathering tonight to await the results with Peter, his family and his supporters. We'll take only our two kids who are friends with the Roskam children (Blondechick13.9 and Bantam11) so that we can leave our oldest home to put the younger ones to bed. If it's as close as they think it will be, it's going to be a late night!

We are listening to NPR election coverage here. AK results won't start coming in for another hour or so ... but they just announced that it looks like you guys won!! Which means it's not even as close as everyone was worried for. :) I'm so glad for Peter & hope the celebrations are sweet!
