Doing, Doing...Done?

So, now that the house is nearly "done," what am I going to do with myself?

Well, keeping it picked up and straightened up seems to be a full-time job for me and the kids, so much so, that I'm going to pay a cleaning service to come in weekly while we have it on the market. This'll be a first for me. I do want my kids to have a little break this summer, and I can't wait to have my kitchen and bathrooms "detailed"!

A few more trips to the hardware store are in store, before we finish those last few house projects, the mosquito-like annoyances I mentioned last time. And I have a backlog of "to do" items crammed into a drawer upstairs--bills to pay, phone calls to make, orders to place, papers to sort...joy, joy.

I really need to be ordering books for next year's homeschooling and giving a bit more thought to how on earth I'm going to pull it off. I'm going from homeschooling three to five next year, and doing high school, for the first time, with two of them! You see why I had hoped for the option of putting one or two of them in school next year. I'm starting to get the uneasy feeling that maybe we need to start homeschooling August 1, so that we can take off a month in September or October or whenever we move.

Oh, and we haven't yet filled the PODS that's still sitting on our driveway. I'd sure like to get this one taken away and be ready for an empty one when it's time to pack in earnest. We still have plenty of stuff we haven't gone through, in both of the attics, the basement closets, and that scary area under the basement stairs, and I'm actually looking forward to going through it all. I can't wait to show my computer-age kids my big high school graduation gift--the electric typewriter I took to college! It's stashed away somewhere, along with our prized LP's from high school. ("Wow, that's a huge CD!" one of our kids said the first time they ever saw one.)

And have I mentioned that we're all in a musical? Opening night is a week from tonight! We have four run-throughs in the next week, plus the whole cast is marching in a July 4th parade to advertise. Then we have three weekends of shows--nine in all for most of us.

Lest you think we're insane, let me tell you that we've CANCELLED planned trips to Boston, to my parents' home, a camping weekend and a traditional Fourth of July parade party at our house--tough decisions, all. I tend to agree with Mark Twain: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do."

And yet a life filled with too much doing leaves little time for being. The balance is so important.

Lord, teach us to number our days aright,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12

Oooh, Linds, I am delighted with your kind, encouraging words!

Will link to them and pass on the "reflections" next week.
