Slow Start Advent

It's the third day of Advent, and other than reading Advent Scriptures with the boys for the past two mornings, we have done nothing to make it feel like Advent. We have a box in the basement with the Advent wreath, Advent calendars, Christmas books and purple ornaments in it, but I have yet to bring it upstairs!

I guess we've been a bit distracted. We had company over Thanksgiving, and on Sunday we were in recovery mode, I guess--oh, and we were helping our highschoolers finish homework! Then two of them had play practice on Monday night and we had theater classes tonight. And every moment that we're not homeschooling, we've been rehearsing auditions--they're Friday night--or practicing the songs from Schoolhouse Rock, as instructed, to prepare in case of a callback on Saturday.

(Educational and Annoying Tangent: You're probably shown the Schoolhouse Rock cartoons to your kids on video or on YouTube, but have you ever printed off the lyrics and sung along with them? Wow, does that ever make the lessons stick! The tunes, too. I caught myself in the grocery store today singing, "Well any person you can meet or any place that you can go, you know they're nouns...you know they're nouns." And don't even get me started on the Interjection song, or "Mr. Morton is the subject of the sentence, and what the predicate says, he does." I have to admit, I love the cleverness!)

Tomorrow at noon we're heading to Wheaton for the historic event--a service to kick off the formation of a new Anglican province for orthodox believers in North America. It will be great to rub shoulders with old friends as well as with Anglican leaders from all over the country. I am especially looking forward to meeting Anne Kennedy, a priest and blogger at An Undercurrent of Hostility, who is already in Wheaton with her kids and famous husband and fellow priest Matt Kennedy, a columnist at StandFirm.

So let's see--I think we'll have Thursday night at home, except Papa Rooster will be gone, traveling on business. In fact, he's going to miss auditions on Friday night, too!

Well, maybe we'll get out the Advent box on Thursday anyway and see what we can do to make it feel a little more like Advent around here.

We just got our things out last night... though you have a lot more going on than we do! We love the Schoolhouse Rock songs, too. M sings Lolly Lolly Lolly get your adverbs here all day.
Blessings, ANnie

Mr. Morton is particularly bad about getting stuck in my head. We've been doing our Advent candle and readings, but it doesn't seem very meaningful. Perhaps it's because this is just our second year of doing this practice, or the fact that a 2-year-old couldn't care less. At least he likes the Jesse Tree we do!
